Book Review: Clockwork Boys
April 10, 2025
This is a cute, steampunk fantasy with a ragtag team coming together to accomplish a goal. Kingfisher is one of my favorite current writers, and her voice here is funny and quirky. This works especially well when she writes the interior monologues of her characters. Comparisons to Terry Pratchett are warranted.
I'm not feeling the bits of romance she's weaving in the story, but so far it's only a minor plot point. Books one and two should probably just have been one novel, but I'm not sure what her publishing career looked like when this came out. Very enjoyable so far!
